Surfaces are used to calculate square footage and to represent flooring, carpeted areas and other surfaces that may exist in your plan. Surfaces are automatically added when the wall tool is used to create an enclosed shape. This feature can be removed in wall tool settings.

Surfaces can also be added using the Surface tool option in the tools palette. All surfaces are created using the default settings for surfaces specified in the Tool Defaults option of the Edit menu.
